The end results of my project were particularly interesting but at the same time still not enough. I would get to the point where I just want to end it since one of the plants I brought was kinda dying but at the same time it's actually a nice example of where I wanted to go with plant communications in terms of health condition. The other plant being more lively could also have some affect maybe since it's a different plant. Now, I will admit that it is my fault that I put these plants in a lot of stress since I was trying to dig out the soil that was stuck on them so I can get the roots exposed for the wires to be attached too. Tying wires was going to be very tricky but instead they were used with alligator clips with a conductive woven sheet. Using alligator clips alone will just immediately smash the roots and may cause some inaccurate results so using a conductive woven sheet would ease up the grips. Currently making progress with the plant communication project as I finally created the "bed" for plants, in which I haven't bought still due to weather concerns or just too big. Creating the "bed" for plant was delayed too many times so I forced myself to buy a dremel tool myself to get the cutting and drilling started on February 19 during Open Lab Hours. However, I have been testing out some basic codes for Arduino to Max rather go much bigger coding since there are some parts I forgot to pick up or just could not make use of for the Arduino board. With just basic codes to read bit of "voltage" data (I guess), the code is slightly different than the actual basic, so a library was installed. The area I’ll be installing my mini project would be near the windows right next to the green screen as I have an idea of project spacing but also resource use condition. I may take about 3 or 4 feet from the window heater of length but width may possibly be about 5 to 6 feet. Some installation may require the stuff in the class but other materials may be bought outright at stores or something and be brought into class. Project I would come up with is dealing with lighting, mirroring, and sense of space of rays from the lights. I can already tell that being an artist is not easy today than it is years ago, especially as a digital experimental media artist. Even though technology is there for us to play around with or to create such work, I believe that there’s more to it. You can’t really tell if such work has been done before and repeating it may or may not be essential, unless it’s been improved or done in alternative way. Though, saying all this is because we hesitate on whether we want to repeat such work or do keep on playing around technology until we find something new about it. We all want different intentions of work as artists and creationist.   I have reasons to be involved in digital experimental media arts. The primary reason is to learn, create, learn again, and recreate these media arts because I feel like there’s more to these technological materials than just using it as art itself. From where I currently stand on my project, I still continue with my idea of plant reading visualization through Max MSP program. Though, after the critique work, there's a lot of work that's needed to be done before moving into the visualization, such as getting the codes to work properly and getting the capacitive sensors to work on roots. Based on ART 523 work progress, the sensors do actually work but getting the data into the Max MSP wasn't easy and may take many attempts to do it since I'm not use to doing digital readings into Max MSP, unlike analog readings. It's about the same but may have some different coding indication. As far as plants to pick out, there are some studies needed before getting the plants and soil themselves to since a lot of plants may have different impact on results, whether it's the plants themselves or the soil.
